A Super Sweet Song and A Good Book for Your Weekend

By April 13, 2012General

I just love this sweet video from JJ Heller (you may have heard her song Your Hands on the radio). She has an incredibly gorgeous voice and I love the way she writes lyrics. Creative yet relatable. This video was produced by her husband Dave. We had them over to our house a couple years ago (here’s the long story why) and they are simply the cutest couple ever.

Good Book

I also want to share a great little ebook with you today. It’s written by my friend Jamie, author of the blog SteadyMom. The ebook is called Mindset for Moms – From Mundane to Marvelous Thinking in Just 30 Days and it’s a gem.

Each of the 30 chapters can be read on it’s own so it’s perfect for a little nap time perspective change. Jamie shares some excellent nuggets of wisdom that will inspire you as a mom.

Here is glimpse at the topics she covers:

  • Want what you have.
  • Learn to think like your child.
  • Survive (and thrive) as an introverted mom.
  • Surround yourself with great thoughts from great minds.
  • Conquer the myth of never enough time.
  • Live above the details.
  • Realize that it’s okay to be down.
  • Find the emotional rest you need when weary.

Doesn’t that sound good? Fortunately for us, Jamie’s not only wise, but she’s kind too. She has a special offer for you all!

From Jamie:
“Any Inspired to Action reader (that’s you!) who buys Mindset for Moms in any format (PDF, Kindle, Nook, or iTunes) can receive a FREE PDF version of my first book, Steady Days: A Journey Toward Intentional, Professional Motherhood (a $9 value!). To take advantage of this offer, simply send me an email – jamie(at)steadymom(dot)com – after your purchase with the subject line “I bought Mindset for Moms” and I’ll respond within a few days with your free copy of Steady Days. Offer valid through April 30, 2012.”

They are incredibly cute! Love the song and I think I will cruise on over to itunes and find it. I was expecting a praise song when I saw “Sweet Song” in your title today, so that was the mindset that I had when I pushed the big ole’ play arrow…love that the song still fits and that we have a Savior that will woo us. thanks for sharing!

  • Avatar Erin says:

What a wonderful song! My heart needed to hear it today – as a mom, and especially as a wife!

I love the line, “We belong together, my heart is yours…”

Giving my heart to those I love is the best and hardest job – it requires me to be dependent on the Lord, the One to whom I belong and who gave and gives His love so generously!

Thanks for the song, JJ, and thanks for sharing it, Kat!

  • What a fun vid! Not sure who I would want to have sing in my living room. That’s a toughie. Britt Nicole would be super fun.

I would definitely want JJ Heller in my living room doing a concert! I had the pleasure of meeting her and hearing her music for the first time 8 years ago when we lived in Phoenix. I have every one of her CDs and I play them so often that my 6 year old daughter now knows most of the tunes and lyrics! We would both be excited to have her play for us! 🙂 I’m so happy that she is becoming more wellknown. She is an awesome singer and songwriter who is sharing her faith in an amazing way!

    • Avatar Kat says:

My kids love her songs too! The funny thing is that now, when we hear her on the radio, my youngest always asks when “Ms. JJ” is coming over again. And at the time, one of my daughters heard an Amy Grant song and asked if she could come over to sing for us. As if that’s a normal thing! Ha!

  • Avatar Mela Kamin says:

wonderfully sweet and beautiful … thanks for sharing that, Kat! saw JJ was touring with Audrey Assad, another amazing voice & gifted writer – would love to see JJ live sometime … as far as having someone sing in my living room – my first thought was my friend, Carl Herrgesell – yes, he has actually sung in my living room before, but I never tire of it and I miss him

  • Avatar Julie Reynolds says:

Love the song, and if I could pick anyone I guess it would be Christa Wells, I absolutely love her new album

  • Avatar Jane says:

Thanks for the book recommendation. I just downloaded it & read the whole thing (I know I’ll go back through it). It had so many good parts – but the one part that really resonated with me was the section on the introverted mom. I feel like I now understand why I’ve been so crabby & irritable – which also reminded me why getting up before my kids is soo important for me & my personality

  • Avatar Sara H says:

Who I would have sing? That would be tough coz my kids would factor in. I’d choose Rich Mullins (hey, we are dreaming here, right?). DS3 would want Jeremy Camp come sing Mighty to Save. DS4 would want Newsboys come sing God’s Not Dead. But I think everyone would be happy with Lauren Camey singing Rise Up. We all love to dance to that. 🙂

Thanks for the info about the books. I’m definitely gonna get them…especially after reading the previous comment by Jane about introvert moms. Sounds like it’s something I’d benefit from reading.

I don’t always comment on your blog entries but I read many and, since I’m commenting today, I just want to thank you for being such an encouragement. It was definitely a blessing to find your blog.

    Happy Sunday.

    • Sara H, Why have I not heard of Lauren Camey? Thanks for sharing!! Found a great YouTube vid from Dance Your Shoes Off!

      • Avatar Sara H says:

I know, huh. We hadn’t heard of her until our church decided to do the flash mob for Easter. My kids participated so I bought the song. It’s so great. I tell people I can’t play it while I’m walking in our neighborhood for fear I’ll start dancing. 😀

    • Avatar Kat says:

Thank YOU for the the kind encouragement…it inspires me!

I just watched the Lauren Camey flash mob video. Very cool!

  • Avatar Haley says:

Cute song! But even cuter was my littlest trying to sing along and then signing for “more” when the song was over.

I can’t decide who to invite to sing in my living room. 🙂 You know, since it’s a real possibility and all.

    • Avatar Kat says:

You NEVER know. I certainly wouldn’t have imagined JJ would come sing at my house! You never know when you might share a favorite song with a family member and then they make it famous on a reality tv show and then the singer wants to come over and personally say thanks. Apparently, it happens often. 🙂

  • Avatar Renee says:

That’s a CUTE video! Thanks for sharing – I’ll have to listen to more of her work.

I bought the book a couple of months ago and devoured it immediately – now I need to go back through it slowly and really let things sink in, and put things into practice.

  • Avatar tacy says:

Thank you for brightening my night with that video.

  • I love the reminder that God sees me as beautiful, but I don’t always. There’s too much of the world’s view in my head when I look in the mirror. And the words “there’s no flaw in you” are hard to believe when both when I look in the mirror and when I’m short with my kids in the morning, I can list the flaws easily. But I can’t tell you what’s beautiful quite as quickly. Definitely a good verse to reflect on (and share with my 3 year old 🙂 ). I love the printables, a great way to keep it visible!
