ITA #26 – Can You Chase Your Dream and Be a Mom? An Interview with Jen Stanbro

By January 6, 2014Podcast

If you’ve listened to the Inspired To Action Podcast lately, you’ve heard Jen Stanbro. She sings that amazing song in the outro of the show. I’ve gotten so many emails and questions about it, so I thought it would be perfect time to share an interview I did with Jen earlier this Fall.

jen stanbro

She was in the midst of the hustle and bustle of raising two young children when she rather suddenly had the opportunity to record many of the songs she’d been writing since 1999. But how did she know when to take the leap of faith and when to pull back for the sake of her family?

You’ll be surprised by some of the twists, turns and pauses in her journey. If you’ve ever had a dream that you put on hold for motherhood, you’ll be inspired by and learn from Jen’s story and beautiful faith.

Sidenote: Stay tuned for Pt. 2 of my Goals series later this week. Also? I redid the header of the blog, if you get a chance, I’d love it if you’d pop over to the site and let me know what you think in the comments! Also…also? You’re awesome. Thanks for listening and reading!

Love the new header and love Jen’s music. When you first tweeted about it in the fall, I fell in love with God day and bought the whole album. It is my #1 playlist since. Thanks for all you do to inspire Kat. Happy New Year.

Great interview. Loved her song. This podcast is the one that I cannot wait to hear every week. Oh and by the way, I have a Sheltie too and they truly are the best dogs.

This interview was a gift from God for me. About 4 months ago I realized I want to be a nurse, but I have a 3 yo, my baby just turned 1 and I’m not sure if I’m done having kids yet; my mom stayed at home with me and my siblings. The idea of going back to school full time instead of being a SAHM scares me, but I can’t shake the idea, either.

Jen’s description of that mental battle, worrying that she was mistaking Satan’s voice for God’s calling her is EXACTLY what I’m going through right now. I feel called, I have prerequisites I can take online so my kids will be older, the cost seems taken care of, my husband supports me. So far, everything is falling in place with more prayer than effort, but I still worry I’m being lead astray! I may worry at least a little until I have the degree in my hand, but this was very reassuring. Thank you!

I loved this interview, as well. It was so fun to hear the artist behind the song. I had noticed you have it playing on the website or podcast for a little bit now. 🙂
Jen, I loved the perspective you offered of “being on God’s side” and things of little importance (seemingly) are of big importance to God.

I found this very encouraging! All things are possible with Him, including living out our dream while still putting first things first. Thank you or sharing this inspirational I interview :).

  • Kat,
Your introduction today made me cry.
It’s funny how you can know something in your head, you can even write about it to minister to others, but sometimes your heart just needs to hear it in a certain way.
    Thanks so much.
(And I enjoyed the interview too!)

I have really enjoyed her whole album since hearing it on your show. I was thinking… 🙂 you should really use your connection with Amanda at KLOVE to get this on the air. It would be a huge hit! Just a thought from a random stranger 🙂

  • I absolutely love her song! I so needed to listen to this podcast today! I’ve had something recently happen to me that is similar to her story (but with writing). I’m even in the middle of Holly Gerth’s book! This podcast gave me chills–and was so encouraging and full of confirmation. Thank you!
