Tomorrow’s Freedom Is Today’s Surrender

By July 4, 2012General

I’ve been slightly obsessed lately with a new-ish band called All Sons and Daughters. This line from their song Dawn to Dusk, has been marinating in my soul for days now:

“Tomorrow’s freedom is today’s surrender”

What Freedom Costs

As those of us in the United States celebrate our nation today, we can’t help but remember that our freedom is not without cost.

Freedom is born of surrender. For my country, it’s opposing nations laying their weapons down. For my own life, it’s me laying my burdens down, laying my selfishness down, laying my pride down.

But it’s also the surrender of comfort and safety made by those who guarantee our freedom.

I have thousands of men and women to thank for the freedom in my nation.

I have one Man to thank for the freedom in my soul.

I am profoundly grateful to all.

Dawn to Dusk

By: All Sons and Daughters

Verse:
Lord as we turn to You
Come free us from our sin
We only have to
So let us now begin

Pre-chorus:
From dawn to dusk
We are waking up
From dawn to dusk
We are waking up

Chorus:
Tomorrows freedom is todays surrender
We come before you to lay our burdens down
We look to You as our hearts remember
You are the only God
You are our only God

Verse:
Lord as we give you more
Your Spirit swells within
Because You are holy holy Lord
So let us now begin

Happy Fourth of July!

I’m headed off to wrap lots of crepe paper around bicycles for our neighborhoods’ annual bike parade. Have a fantastic Wednesday!

For those of you in the US, what are your 4th of July Plans? For all my friends who live elsewhere, what music can you recommend (I *love* new music!)? Click here to comment.

(Sadly, there isn’t a YouTube performance of this song, but you can click over to HearItFirst to watch All Sons And Daughters perform it. I highly recommend it. Think the Civil Wars meet Kari Jobe. Gorgeous harmonies, great lyrics, deeply worshipful. Click here to watch.)

Great song…but I would classify them more as a Male/Female version of Shane&Shane 🙂 Great harmony! I may have just found a new band to listen to! Thanks Kat! 🙂

Love them, too! This week their “Give Me Jesus” is on my playlist. 🙂

I also love listening to fresh new music–do you ever listen to Under the Radar? (If not, it’s a weekly online/radio program with one hour of fresh, Christian music that’s rarely heard on the radio–I find a lot of fun, thought-provoking music from listening to it.–www.radarradio.net.) This week I’ve been loving the group Seryn and their songs “So Within” and “On My Knees.” 🙂

Love coming over to your blog and being inspired as a mom. Thanks for sharing your life! 🙂
