(Hi! Kat here. I just wanted to introduce today’s guest writer to those of you who may be new. Her name is Michelle and the Maximize Your Mornings Challenge is her brainchild. I had the honor hanging out with her at the Relevant Blog Conference and I just adore her. Many of you already do too. Without further ado, here’s Michelle with the details of the new Challenge.)

Some of you have been plugging along faithfully since we started. Others are ready to jump in- maybe for the first time.

Whoever you are- whether you rise when the rooster crows or are rolled out of bed by your hungry kids-

Welcome!

Today is a crisp, white page in your notebook. Crease open the binding and take a moment to savor the promise of a fresh start.

Winter Challenge Details

We’ve made some exciting changes to the Challenge, increasing the amount of support and switching things up a little bit.

The Winter Challenge will run through March 25th. Look for new posts here every Friday.

Accountability

New for 2011, we are adding an accountability component!

For those of you using Twitter to say #hellomornings, we have rounded up some wonderful women who will be assigned to encourage and support specific participants. This way, no one can drop off the face of the earth without someone missing them.

We call these women Accountability Captains, because… well – we’re dorks and it sounded cool.

We’re still assembling our AC’s, but we want to give a shout out to Katie, Andie and Lara for eagerly joining our band of merry women.

We are also working on expanding this challenge on Facebook, so be sure you like Inspired to Action!

Twitter Chats

As if Accountability Captains weren’t enough to make you stop and join Twitter, we will also be hosting monthly Twitter Chats!

These Chats will allow you to meet & mingle, get lots of encouragement and ask questions you may have about implementing a morning routine.

Weekly Guests

You will also get the chance to hear from other participants about their personal experiences through our guest writers. We hope you gain lots of useful tips for creating a morning routine of your own.

    Yay! Yes, I’m still in! I have been doing it for several months but the one thing I have not been able to figure out is the exercise part. Looking forward to more accountability!

      Frankly, the exercise part has been the hardest for me too since the days have gotten shorter. Running is what I love to do, but I don’t like running in the dark so I’ve had to make some compromises.

      I think the Twitter chats will be a great place for us all to get new and fresh ideas. I can’t wait!

    And as I said in the other post, I was just thinking about how off my days are when my 21 month old wakes me and I am just trudging through the day.

    I need to have my A-game on, right from the start.

  • I am SO in!!!! I did this in July and I loved it….then somewhere near September, I started staying up too late. I love the time with the Lord, when all I can hear is Him. I woke up at 5ish this morning (eyes looked at the clock at 4:51, body got out of bed at 5:17. Nothing beats QT w/ Abba before the day gets rolling! I flourish with accountability. I have not really understood Twitter very well in the past, but I’m gonna try again. Yay for MYM Challenge….thank you for sharing what God has given you!

    Alright, I’m in. I’m doing this (MxM) in conjunction with a 100 day calendar. I have three goals for the next 100 days. 1: do MxM each morning, 2: go to bed by 10pm each night, 3: No TV. I can watch TV when I’m old, but right now I want to do other things… Thanks for making this! I am in desperate need of accountability.

      I’m also doing the 100 day calendar and loving it! Along with MYM, my new habits for the 100 days (and beyond!) are 1)completing my Bible Reading plan for the day, 2) drinking 64 oz water daily, 3) and reading from one of the 10 books on my nightstand before bed! (I have so many I want to read that I’ve been unable to decide which one to start with…and that’s left me with just staring at them and reading nothing!)

    I Need this MYM Challenge! Ok, my body is already starting to form painfull objections to early Mornin’s that once included Facedown time (I have a body that is a CarVsSemi/Brain&softTissueInjury affected). However! . . . The very mention of ‘Accountability Captains’ or ACs got my heart to at least pump a bit harder in memory of a ‘Good Mornin’ Glory! 🙂 Woman. She got up, worshiped, studied, wrote & posted about her Quiet Time with the LORD each M-F Mornin’ on this Womens’ Devotional Encouragement for a whole Year’. And mostly JOY-FULLy!
    I Unashamedly Testify to wearing my ‘Dork Hat’ Proudly. LOL! So Ladies… I’m Jumpin’ or honestly, Fallin’ All In for this MYM Challenge Knowing God has provided the AC (whoever she is) that I’ve been lookin’ for! Oh, & I have no doubt that my Family & Ministry will Thank U 2! 😀

    Hello ladies, I am taking this challenge. I used to be good early riser (helps that I am a morning person generally) but have fallen off and on from the ‘routine’ of quiet time and breakfast alone (a must for grumpy moms like me who are hungry all the while helping kids get dressed and preparing breakfasts for them). I won’t be joining twitter for now but will like the facebook link. I feel like I am already pulled in too many directions and can’t get enough done. Facebook, blogs, emails are more than enough as it is so tempting for me to keep clicking my hours away to new and newer blogs, and websites. Perhaps in the future when I have a better routine down I might join the twitter world Thanks for the challenge! (I accidentally wrote this comment on an older “Max Morn Chall” back in 2010, so I just copied and pasted it here, also my blog site came out wrong there- the one here is correct!)

    God’s timing is so perfect – Kat, your blog came to me at the perfect time! Earlier this month, my 4 month old baby girl started sleeping through the night (woo hoo!) and so I have been thinking how great it would be if I got up early to do a devotion and then start reclaiming my pre-baby body back at the gym – but it was just that – a thought. Then I heard you speak at my MOPS group at Northwest and it was exactly what I needed to hear and the encouragement to start putting that thought into action! Thank you for these practical tools and never before have I wanted to join Twitter until now! I am excited to start and be part of this challenge!

    I must be crazy… but I’ll give this challenge another go 🙂

    I say crazy because I have a 4 month old at home! (and a 2.5 yrs). Which means my days are NOT predictable. Sure, they are better than when she was newborn, but although she naps, it’s never really at the same time each day yet, and her “bedtime” highly depends on her naps – and if she decides she would prefer to cluster feed until 1 am that evening or not.

    Nevertheless, I strongly believe that if I get some “me” time in the morning, I will be a better mother to my girls, because I’ll be able to get those little indulgences – and chores, too, mainly computer-related chores & home management planning stuff – out of the way before the fam gets up, and be so much less distracted during the day. I will be able to give them my full attention – or more of it anyway 🙂 I won’t have all these tasks that needs to be done nagging me – like the weekly meal plan, the grocery list, filling away the recipes, checking my e-mails, seeing if new playgroups have been scheduled, printing and organizing activities for my oldest (I make her lots of file folder games and fun activities, we plan on homeschooling, so we don’t homeschool yet, but I use a lot of homeschool planning tricks to organize her crafts and activities to do – otherwise we end up starring at the wall wondering what to do if I don’t have a general plan!).

    So I’m thinking, if I nurse DD2 around 9 pm, and go to bed around 10 pm – 7 hours brings me to 5 am. Actually, I did it the other way around 🙂 The kids wake up typically around 7:30 am, and I know just 1h of me time won’t be enough – by the time I fixed breakfast, woke up, and checked my e-mails, it’ll be over. I can be slow in the morning… 🙂 Plus there’s always the odd times when one of the girls wake up at 6 or 6:30. So I’m thinking 5 am might work, and when I counted back 7 hours it brought me to 10 pm and that seems reasonable!

    Disclaimer: I’ll be gentle on myself. I do have a 4 month old around. If she nurses and cluster feeds until 1 am – obviously we scratch the next morning wake up. If the girls decide the day is so marvellous they need to start it at 6 am – we’ll try again tomorrow. If DD2 wakes up 5 times in the night – sleep in a bit. I’ll still probably have more early days than less, which means things won’t pile up as much anyway. And I’m always more productive in the morning than in the evening – which is often spent cluster feeding from dinnertime to bedtime, anyway. Very, VERY frustrating trying to get things done in that time period.

    Okay, I’m in! I’ve been chanting “GET. OUT. OF. BED!” every morning for about 2.5 weeks. Why is this so difficult?? Started out with kids crawling in bed with me…now I’m up between 6-6:15–waaaay before them at 7:15ish :)…going for 5:30 in a few weeks! I love it, and am so glad to finally have a morning routine, time to myself in the morning, and a scheduled time to spend with God!! All things I have never had as a mom!!

    Just started this morning . . . dragging this afternoon. Having the mother of all colds doesn’t help. Excited about this journey, praying for the Holy Spirit to give me the strength to be faithful.

    I’m in too!! I’ve wanted to do this for awhile and officially jumping in! I coincidentally wake up before my 2 kiddo sometimes and it is so nice to have some tine by myself to start the day. My son wakes up early and waking up before him can be early.

    I’ll give it a go. I desperately need to become a morning person instead of a night owl. Two of my four children (and my husband) are up and ready to go early in the morning. The other two aren’t far behind. Our days go so much better when I’m up and ready before them. I tend to stay up late getting things done, but then the time slips by way too fast and, before I know it, it’s midnight! I’m praying that 2011 is the year I turn it around.

  • I’m so not a morning person…never have been. I’m definitely a night owl (it’s 11:15pm as I type this). I saw this and thought…”Nah…I’m not ready yet.” And maybe I’m not, but I guess I’ll never know unless I try. I definitely want to work on going to bed earlier and getting up earlier (I have to get up at 7am no matter what when my kiddo wakes up).
    Maybe the support is just what I need to get motivated!

    What’s the official start date and is there a specific time we are to get up? Does it still count if I tweet hellomornings at 10am? 😉

    (Oh my, I’m tired already just thinking about it.)

      It starts now and there is no specific time. The bottom line goal is just to get up early enough to connect with God and let Him paint His truth on your heart before the frenzy of life hits. Even 5 minutes of prayer and Bible reading will impact our hearts and create a habit. And the habit is the goal…not the time.

    I’m in..I read your post right after thinking about that I need to get up earlier. God has been reminding me for a while..It’s a little scary, since I’m afraid of failing..again..Have tried this before..But I will try again.:) By Gods grace I can do it! ( by the way, I’m from Norway:) )

      Norway? So cool. Dont worry about failing. Just take tiny steps. 5 minutes early to pray and read a verse or two is a great way to start. Make it as simple as you need to in order to make it a habit. You can do it!

    I’m not sure what all this entails, but I’m gonna give it a try. Part of my 3in30 goals is establishing a routine, and getting up earlier is part of that. We all are night owls, so I hope this helps.

      Selena,
      The Maximize Your Mornings Challenge is suer flexible. The basic idea is just to challenge all of us to get us at least 5 minutes early to pray and read our Bibles and prepare our hearts for the day. Some people are getting up earlier to plan and exercise and have an extended time with God, but feel free to make it as simple as you need!

    *sigh* I hope I’m in, this time. I was all set to jump in, in December – and then I got put on bed rest at the very end of November. Now I have a baby due any day, so I am planning to jump in as soon as baby is born!
