My oldest has started Kindergarten, and I’ve had to be even more organized in the mornings. Getting up early to be completely ready before the kids wake up starts my morning off on such a better foot than waking up when they do. I’m getting lots accomplished in those early hours.

My action this past week was to journal daily, making sure I turn any negativity into a positive… had a rough week – so I had to make sure I was trying my best to stay positive so my negativity didn’t run off onto anyone else ;-)

Goal for this week: Walk to the bus stop with little man, instead of driving, with the dog – at least three days this week! One day down!!

A few years ago, I’d gotten in the habit of getting up to read my Bible whenever I woke between 6-7am. I figured if God let me sleep in, I must need the sleep more than the quiet time. And almost every morning, I was awake by 6:15, without an alarm. But then I started staying up later. And waking, seeing the time, and refusing to get up. And then I stopped waking up before 7am altogether.
Last night, I finished the day by asking God to wake me and telling Him I would get up (even though I’d stayed up til after 11pm and then didn’t actually fall asleep til after midnight).
At 6:38, I opened an eye long enough to see the clock, inwardly groaned when I realized what I’d done and what that meant, but said a quick morning prayer, got up, and went straight to my reading chair with my Bible and journal.
SUCH A SWEET TIME! And first kid didn’t wake up til about half hour into things — and quietly played until I was done! Inspires me to get up again tomorrow when my “Almighty Alarm” wakes me. And to go to bed earlier today! : )

P.S. Darla, great reminder to put on workout clothes right away! I loved reading everyone else’s actions too! Thanks! Now I better go tidy up the house before my aunt arrives to visit!!!

I had a reality check this week and was disappointed by something my husband did. This lead to great irritation and resentment. I realized that my feelings were being overcome by my faith. In order for me to overcome this I opened my Bible and read Psalm 25. With each verse I soon could feel a good attitude. Each morning I have read Psalm 25 and cannot believe the transition that has taken place in my heart. What God was doing was something my faith could not see. All in all, I began to think more rationally instead of being consumed by the world’s view of things.

A month ago I started taking my shower at night, since mornings are just too hectic around here, which sometimes left me in pyjamas until after 9am before I could get a chance to shower. It is working out great! In the mornings I just splash my face and brush my teeth and I am dressed and ready to go before my husband leaves for work! Plus, we are in the dead of winter here in South Africa, and crawling into bed still glowing from the shower, makes for a lovely warm night’s sleep!

I was getting up early at 5:30 and working out and reading my bible but then we went out of town and I fell off that routine and have had a hard time getting back to it. So this week I took your advice to take baby steps so I got up 15 minutes earlier to read my bible and I will keep increasing by 15 minutes each week. I’m also working on developing my night routine so it’s easier to get out of bed in the morning.

Today…I am purposing in my mind to rest in knowing I don’t have to conquer the world in one day. :-) I have a long list of “to-do’s” and I just need to do one thing at a time…and enjoy the process. (That is hard for this task-oriented person to do). But there is freedom in it!

Only hit snooze once. ;)
Had a fabulous quiet time (thanks to my kids sleeping in later than usual – yey!).
Got to the gym.
Endured a horrible public tantrum by my 3yo at said gym. (Not part of the plan for the day, obviously. Ha. Sigh.)
Meals for week are planned (and food is defrosting for tonight’s dinner).
Laundry is washing, and kids are about to go down for naps, and I’ve got my To Do list ready for naptime, which includes getting my Mission Stmt all pretty for printing!

God has really been placing it on my heart to become disciplined at getting up early and exercising and reading my Bible/devotionals. I am NOT a morning person and couple that with Rheumatoid Arthritis and mornings are difficult. But, this summer I’ve been trying to set up a routine…and it’s working. A vacation and an illness had distracted me from my goal, but I recently read your blog and decided I couldn’t wait any longer. Truth be told, I missed that time…maybe not the sweaty exercise part, but I missed the carved out time getting up to exercise gave me to read my Bible. Today, I jumped back on the bandwagon, so to speak. I even got up at 6:00 a.m., just so that I could exercise with my husband. :) And, at 8:30, I had the kids up, dressed, and headed to a newly rebuilt park in our area. It was a wonderful morning!

I found your blog through smallnotebook last week. I downloaded your free e-book on Saturday morning and absolutely LOVED your ideas. It has given me just the motivation I’ve needed to make the changes I’ve been wanting. So, this morning I got up at 6 AM for a morning run. I had to do what you suggested – pray myself out of bed this morning. It worked! I didn’t even push snooze. I love the time I get to think while I run. When I got back I got my husband out the door for work and read my scriptures for 20 minutes and then showered. I was ready for the day before the kids got up and it felt SO good.

Thank you for writing your e-book and thank you for making it free. It will benefit so many people that way. It has blessed my life. Now, if I can just stay faithful and balanced. I really want to get into good habits as the kids go back to school on Wednesday. Thank you for your help!

I wrote down my mission statement and have done a rough draft of a weekday schedule.

1. To make my home and yard a peaceful sactuary for my family.
2. To take care of my health and hope to take care of my husband’s as best I can.
3. To grow spiritually (Be Not Afraid!) and strive to reflect God’s love through me.
4. To be a good steward of all that God has given me (financially, emotioinally and worldly).
5. To be a good wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, nurturing my gifts and the gifts of those around me.

I finally did it…I wrote my Mission Statement. It was so difficult for me to write it. We as moms put so much on our plates, it makes it difficult to prioritize and size some things down. However, it does take a weight off my shoulder to see what gets in and what needs to stay out (scheduling and duties that is). I also, studied my word, prayed, and worked out.
