My sister’s wedding was yesterday so I knew this weekend was a busy one. Since hubby had Monday off, my FIL came over to watch the kids, and we finished most of the week’s chores and we took a blogging break so that we could pamper the kids before all the busyness of rehearsal dinner, last minute touches of the MOH speech, putting together slideshow…etc…all that fun wedding stuff. And they definitely needed that quiet (week) before the (wedding) storm. They are knocked out last night and we’re hopefully going to get in a lot of family time tomorrow to get back to our routine.

We are leaving next Sunday afternoon to go on a 5000 mile road trip to visit family. 6 children ages 7,5,4,2, 9 mo twins…two dogs….and hubby and me. What’s the definition of stress? Ahh yes.well. I set my alarm for 5 and went to bed. Interuption came in the form of a dog who thinks he’s a human and should have a pillow too ..and a sweet 2 year old who needs his mom a little more than normal. Turned alarm OFF. Then couldn’t sleep…at 3:45a.m. Figured, why not…and got up, began doing laundry. Hoping the stress will be alleviated by beginning a day earlier, with a cheerful attitude, and accomplishing something first thing in the very early a.m.

  • Avatar Christa says:

Large families have lots of laundry. And I don’t like laundry…washing, drying are easy. Folding and putting away – ughhh. a dreaded task for this mama. However, Toby Mac and Chris Tomlin are a couple of my absolute favorites to listen while I fold. And I then enjoy my task.

    • Avatar chioma says:

Thanks for this great idea! I will listen to music too from now on because I also dread the task of folding and putting away. 🙁

    • Avatar Lisa says:

I love listening to my ipod (music, podcasts, etc) to do work. It makes it SO much easier. I’ve only got 4, but I don’t feel like I can plug in my tunes unless dh is home, at least during the summer, to deflect the interruptions. Still when I do it it makes the jobs so much easier. Kudos to you for taking such a long trip with so many. Stress, yea, but even more so the memories will last forever and whatever happens you (or the family) can look back and appreciate what they had. Have fun!

      ~Lisa

    • Avatar Christa says:

Have you heard of Pandora radio online? I don’t listen to my mp3 either while the kids are awake because I tend to get annoyed with the interruptions…so I turn on Pandora instead. You can type in an artist or a genre of music and it will make a playlist (and they really rock at doing so!)..if you tire of one style you can make a different “station” with a different style…You get 40 hours free per month and after that you can subscribe and pay per year or maybe even month..not sure. http://www.pandora.com
      Happy Folding!! 🙂

In keeping with what was once a more regular routine, one of my daughters joined me for a morning workout while the other children fixed breakfast. Later in the morning, we resumed our study of Deuteronomy and Ephesians together. I always love having Bible study with the children, as their questions and comments cause me to dig deeper and enrich the experience. I also took the opportunity this morning to review my second daughter’s summer goals list. Together, we were able to assess which items need to be edited, deleted, added, etc. She’s very self-motivated, but it was nice to review it together and make sure that her goals are in line with what we require of her. This afternoon, I enjoyed a lunch outing with all five children. Bonding time in a relaxed environment away from home is always pleasant. These guys are my favorite company to keep (aside from my wonderful husband). As they grow so quickly, I want to make the most of the time we have together — particularly with our oldest daughter, who will be going to Alaska in the fall to be a temporary nanny for our friends there.

What a great idea re: breakfast. I’m doing an exercise program with my 12 yo son and often times we have a really late b’fast, BUT if I got my dd to fix for her and her 2 little brothers that would solve that problem. I love that you’re having a bible study with the children. Do you come up with it yourself or use a book? I’d love to do a study with the kids but do not even know where to start or how to go about it. My kids are (b)12, (g)10, (b)7 & (b)5. Thanks for your post, it was a real inspiration.

good for you!!!! I vowed I’d get my 12 yr old son exercising this summer with me rather than being a bump on the couch and even though I let a few days slip through, my hubby will call to check in with us and even though I’ve requested we stop, ds said “nah, we can keep going”. It’s nice having the accountability between the three of us.

I recently read a Karen Kingsbury novel and really liked it. I’ve also been reading some Debbie Macomber . . . like her. Beth Moore, Max Lucado and those Amish themed novels. I know Beverly Lewis writes some.

I started praying regularly for my husband and kids. I use the calendars from ITA, writing the prayers on 3×5 cards (one side for hubby, one for kids, writing their names in specifically) and the verses listed with them. I did get up early to spend time with God but my 2yo has a sixth sense about me being awake. So, in trying not to be sad and frustrated, I rocked him and prayed. I’m thankful for God helping me adjust my attitude. I’m also a little intimidated, and very excited, to pray specifically for my family. God is so big!

My husband has been going through an especially trying time lately; it feels like every time he tries to take a step forward in any direction, a brick wall is thrown up.

Earlier this week, I decided that for every voice in his head telling him “you can’t,” I’m going to be the voice telling him he can. I picked up a leather journal, and have been making an intentional effort to tell him how much I love him and respect the man he is and appreciate the way he leads me; in short, all the reasons I know that he’s more than enough to do or be anything the Lord has set in his heart.

I know that today is not Monday but I took action. My daughter and I went on a date. We spent the whole day shopping (mostly window shopping) but we spent the whole day together out of our town. (I drove to another town about an hour away to shop in those malls and stores, somewhere different then just hanging out at home). We had a wonderful day just talking and looking around.
