Today is Motivation Monday! Tell us in the comments if you’ve taken action and get a chance to win today’s giveaway which is a copy of JJ Heller’s Painted Red album!

Get all the details at the end of the post and find out who won last week’s prize.

Motherhood and Identity – Continued

Last week we started discussing Motherhood and Identity. If you haven’t read through some of the comments, I HIGHLY recommend it. You all are awesome and wise women!

There is a song by JJ Heller that I absolutely love. Actually, I love all her songs. But I thought this one, in particular, is appropriate for our current topic.

This is a video made by some of JJ’s fans in Denmark. I think it’s brilliant. Enjoy!

Motivation Monday Details

For those of you who are new, here’s how Motivation Monday works:
Anyone who takes some sort of action can enter to win. Your action might be:

  • getting up early, reading your Bible

  • creating a mission statement
  • exercising
  • creating a meal plan
  • Writing a goal

It can be any action that improves who you are as a believer or a mother.

How To Enter

To enter the giveaway, you would do one (or all) of these:
1. Leave a comment and say, “I took action this week!”
2. Leave another comment telling us what action you took.
3. Follow @Inspired2Action on Twitter or Facebook and tell us there about the action you took.
4. Blog about your action and share the link below.

Last Week’s Winner
According to Random.org, last week’s winner of the iTunes gift card is Johanne! Congratulations!

Action Begets Action

Why do I want you to Twitter, Facebook, Blog or Comment about the actions you taken in the past couple of weeks? …because action begets action. The things you’ve done WILL inspire others. And, well, that’s kind of what this blog is all about.

Every morning I wake up, I realize I don’t have a clear idea of what I hope to teach my children that day. Of course I know I want to teach them the love of God, good manners, responsibility, compassion, give them a sense of adventure among others. But I never really knew what or how to teach them every moment of the day. In order to not let a moment slip by, I spent a week writing down what virtues I want to teach my 2 and 3 year old and how I can practically do that during the day. I just hope that they can look through my faults and see that I really want the best for them. And I am praying that this week we can have a lot of fun playing and learning!

I had my kids make lists of activites that we can “schedule” and a reasonable time to do them…..(this did not included mindless tv or video games), had to include bible and prayer time as well as service.
Explained how many waking hours and the importance of not wasting our time and noted that the “activites” they love to do included lots of scheduled time while bible, prayer and service was alloted a much smaller time.I got a “but mom, do really expect me to read my Bible for more than five minutes a day look but they definetly relented to the idea that at least a little more time could go for these.

I dejunked, organized, and cleaned my toddler-aged son’s room. I filled my trunk with old toys and such to donate to Salvation Army…even made a detailed itemized list for record-keeping for tax purposes. I made three “donations” of stuff through FreeCycle.org. You’re right! Action begats action. I’m on a roll and ready to clear out some clutter!

This past week, I worked on getting up at 5 a.m. every morning (including Saturday and Sunday) so I would have some uninterrupted quiet time to read my Bible and pray. I also tried to be in bed between 9 and 9:30, even though I did read for a little bit before going to sleep. Some mornings it was really hard to stay awake and stay focused, but I did it! I really felt like it helped my days go better!

I’ve been reading some of Elizabeth George’s books (A Wife After God’s Own Heart, A Woman After God’s Heart. This week I want to work on adopting the things I’ve read about.

I found a great online bible study about being a help meet to your husband. I have been waking up early, studying, and taking notes.

  • Avatar Lisa M says:

I took action today! I looked at refi-ing our mortgage to 15 or 20 years with the current “historically low rates”. This will allow us to get close to paying off the mortgage before the kids go to college, especially if we make extra payments. It just makes sense!

I took action this week! I went on a date w/ my 12 year old daughter to lunch. Dad came home for lunch to hang out w/ the other kids while I was gone w/ my daughter. We had a great time and had the opportunity to talk about some deeper issues.
