GIVEAWAY! Motivation Monday: Don’t Read My Blog This Week

by Kat on May 2, 2010 · 89 comments

Today is Motivation Monday! Tell us in the comments if you’ve taken action and get a chance to win today’s giveaway which is Francine Rivers‘ latest book, Her Mother’s Hope.

It’s the only nonfiction book I’ve read in a REALLY long time and it was excellent. I was actually a bit obsessive about reading it. I finished the 500 page book in a day.

And that, friends, is why I rarely read nonfiction books.

Get all the details at the end of the post and find out who won last week’s prize.

Don’t Read My Blog This Week

Well, at least until you read these two blogs:

World Vision Bloggers This week my friend Amanda is taking a trip with World Vision to see their programs that benefit the people of the Dominican Republic. Amanda is a fellow inspired mom just like you. I love this awesome post she wrote about discovering the joy of a morning routine.

Please read her personal blog this week. I’ve followed many bloggers who have gone on similar trips and it’s always deeply moving. Jimmy and I sponsor children through Compassion International and it’s been a wonderful way to help our family have a broader world view.

PhotobucketI’ll also be guest posting at Amanda’s wonderful blog - Impress Your Kids. Her blog is all about creative ways to impress God’s Word on our children’s hearts. I think my post goes up on Wednesday, so hop on over and check it out. Her blog is packed with really fun things to do with our children, which fits in nicely with the theme for this week: Summer Fun.

Summer Fun

If you have time, after reading about Amanda’s trip to the DR, I’d love it if you’d join us this week as we discuss all the creative and fun things we can do with our families this summer.

We’ll talk about everything from “How to Make Big Memories on a Small Budget” to “Surviving Summer Road Trips.”

See you tomorrow!

You Are Awesome

I just wanted to take a second and tell you how awesome you are. You know, just in case you’ve forgotten. I’m so impressed and inspired by the ways each of you have taken action in your lives. I seriously LOVE reading all the Motivation Monday comments. If you haven’t been reading all the other comments, I highly encourage you to take a minute and read them this week. So encouraging…

Rock stars. That’s what you are.

I got up this morning at 6 (much earlier than usual) and even though I wanted to get back into bed, I didn’t! I pushed through! And we are going back to the US on Friday for a visit, so I want to persevere through this week and not let it slip by!

I prayed for God to help me get up every morning at 6:15, and He has! Even the one day I climed back in to bed for “just a minute” He gently nuged me right back out when my dog decided he needed to go outside =] I also made some summer goals for the kids! I love Amanda’s blog, I always find so many great activities and ideas.

Guess what??
After boot camp this morning I came home and took my coffee and Bible out back and set on the patio and read in the Word. I am so pumped to have had both my favorite things this morning. Need to find a more consistent way to get them both done before 7 am.

No, YOU rock, Kat :)

I am not a morning person. I have an incredibly hard time, not only getting up, but forming any coherent thoughts. Bible reading in the morning has been an extreme challenge. While I can sit down with my Bible and “read” it, I can’t absorb what I’m reading. Last night I decided it didn’t really matter when I read His Word, just reading it and letting it soak into me was the important part. Before I went to bed (instead of reading my usual novel), I read my Bible. It was wonderful! The benefit is that I had an unusually good night’s sleep (I have sleep issues) and no crazy dreams (I have very vivid, often odd dreams). I really think this is the solution God provided for me to spend quality time with Him!

My first action has been getting up at 6:45 to do my quiet time and get dressed before my kids wake up. Unfortunately, I feel Satan’s attack and my baby (15 month old) has been up the past two nights and I ended up sleeping with her and haven’t been able to “get up early”. I’m so excited at how God has helped me to get up!

I took action this week by planning my Summer. It always seems like summer gets away from me. I have grand plans of all the things we will learn and that we will do but it never gets done. I’ve finished the basic daily plan and I have nearly completed the activities for the summer. Thansk for inspiring me to take action… Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Eh 5:15-17

I created my own weekly schedule form, with check boxes and blanks where I need them, and started using it. The making is fun, the using is tougher :)

My goal for this week is to get snack foods in my meal rotation, so I am not frustrated and lost every time my kids are looking for something to eat.

I laid out my Bible study stuff on the table last night, put together a worship playlist on my iPod, and got up before my kids to spend sweet time with the Lord this morning. I’m thankful they “slept in” until 7. :) I’m also working on my meal plan (doing only 8-12 weeks has revolutionized and motivated my planning!), my mommy mission statement, and my exercise plan. Much to do…but baby steps help!

Beginning last Thursday I finally reached my goal of getting up at 5:30am. It took three weeks to get there, but I inched my way down and so far I have been able to do it since that time. These past few weeks of getting up earlier have been a tremendous blessing and I am beginning to see benefits that I didn’t even expect as a result. I also began working on my mission statement on Saturday and this morning I went for a 2 mile walk/jog (mostly walk!) and hope I can keep that up. It’s been almost a year since I have done any kind of intentional exercise and I wouldn’t even call what I did a year ago very intentional. It felt great getting out there…we’ll see how I feel tomorrow! :)

Over the past year and a half, our family has been doing more to be good stewards of our bodies and our money. The other thing that I hadn’t been better with yet is my time … I had a revelation last week about this and low and behold, I discovered your blog. I have been getting up early and doing Bible study for 4 days now. Getting up early totally helps with my day and staying focused.

By the way, I heard about this book last week at my women’s Bible study group, and the review is that it was excellent!

I’ve actually been both inspired and required to be more purposeful in my actions. At 33 weeks pregnant and chasing around my almost-14-month-old, I’m needing to slow down a lot to have the energy to keep up with our daughter. This blog has inspired me to get even more purposeful in my prioritization and to get done the important things and not worry about the rest.

This weekend that meant letting the clean, folded laundry sit in the laundry room waiting to be put away while I moved our daughter’s clothes from the dresser in the nursery to the dresser in her big girl room so that I could organize and put away her new little sister’s clothes in the nursery dresser. I still need to re-wash all of the baby clothes, but it’s nice to know that they’re all out and organized rather than hidden at the bottom of a Rubbermaid box!

Yesterday I made a meal plan for the first time in months and months. We’ve been through a ton of transition (big move, job change, baby #3!), so there has not much cooking from me! My hubbie has been bringing up the slack. It feels good to have a plan, and to get back to preparing the week for my family.

Thanks so much for all of the comments everyone! They are good motivation for someone who, while the alarm has gone off early every morning, I haven’t been super successful in the actually getting up part. The fact that I am coming off a bad cold and extra tired doesn’t help, but ought to be encouraging me to get to bed even earlier, instead of staying in bed later in the morning!

Thank you Kat for your continued encouragement, even for slow learners like myself!

Question: Ought the action you took and post about on Motivation Mondays be from the previous week, or from the week we are currently in?

I specifically set aside time to read my Bible — and it’s hard to put down when it’s time to quit! :-) I hope I can continue with this. At this point, it’s not in the morning (that won’t work with our schedules right now), but in the evening, I often have at least 30 minutes “for me” — and that’s worked great. :-)
