GIVEAWAY! – Motivation Monday: Why Mothers Need To Retreat

By April 11, 2010General

Today is Motivation Monday! Tell us in the comments if you’ve taken action and get a chance to win today’s giveaway which is…Britt Nicole’s CD The Lost Get Found.

Honestly, while I’ve enjoyed the cd and always thought she had a great voice, I was blown away by this live, acoustic version of her single. I could go on and geek out musically, but I’ll just show you the video.

Get all the details at the end of the post and find out who won last week’s prize.

Amazing.

This is the sentence where I write a really cute and clever segue. Or not.

Why Mothers Need A Retreat Routine

I love this quote…

“A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.” — Tenneva Jordan

Mother’s give. It’s what we do. And more often than not, we give to everyone else before ourselves. We say yes to everything and everyone else’s needs before we tend to our own.

And that’s a recipe for disaster.

We get rundown, overwhelmed, exhausted and unfocused.

Sound familiar? Maybe you’ve been there or maybe you are there.

Our bodies are smart. They know what we need and they will make sure we get rest one way or the other. If we don’t choose to rest, our bodies will choose for us and we’ll get sick or emotionally give up and let our responsibilities pile up while we zone and watch 90210 marathons.

This is why it is vital that retreats become a part of our routine.

This Week’s Topic: Why and How to Take Retreats

We’ve covered a lot of topics in the last two months. Hopefully, you’re on your way to developing a morning routine, or perhaps you’ve created a mission statement and goals.

Or maybe you feel hopelessly behind. Maybe you wonder how anyone has the time to do all this planning and deep thinking. This week’s topic is just for you.

We are going to talk about how to take and find time for daily, weekly and yearly retreats. We’ll also discuss how to use them to their fullest (to get refreshed, envisioned and create plans that will free up time in day to day life).

Where are you? Are you feeling rested and focused or rundown and overwhelmed?

Action Step: Make a list of the things that refresh you.

This is going to sound funny, but my point of action this week is to take rest. I have been having an amazing time getting up early the past few weeks, but last week I got really sick with a cold. Usually during a cold I just keep going, prolonging the cold. But this week I have decided only to do what is necessary and take the time to rest. While doing that, I have taken some opportunities to spend time with my kids in the bed (reading, playing computer learning games, etc.) But I have also taken some action in planning my daughter’s birthday party. Usually I wait until the last minute and then I’m straggled. Thank you for encouraging me to make a goal list and meeting the mini goals to meet the big goal. I am able to make lists on the computer! And I told my Facebook friends. And I’m able to read my Bible at my desk (sorry, can’t do that in bed)
I am looking forward to being well so I can once again wake up early and also go to the gym. My body is so used to it now that it’s hard to relax!

Now that I have my morning routine, I set up and am starting today my evening routine. I have a home daycare and usually after work i pretty much don’t get much if anything done around the house. So starting today, after work, 6-7pm eat and then some house cleaning, 7pm bathe my 4 yr old, spend time with her until her bedtime(745pm), 8 -830 more house cleaning, 830-930 Excercise, 930 shower and get ready for next day, 1000pm bedtime:-)

I wrote my mission statement. I had one years ago, as a single career girl and loved having one then, and feel so much more focused now having one as a mom!

This morning I got up early and read my Bible, prayed, and planned my week. I am starting slow and adjusting my schedule right now, so that I can have more time in the mornings than I do now. My struggle is my son getting up as soon as he hears me, no matter how quiet I am and how early it is. But I will press on and find a way to make it work πŸ™‚

  • I’m taking action RIGHT NOW…thanks for the extra motivation! πŸ˜€

I got up at 5:30 or so instead of sleeping in until 6 or 6:15 am. I grabbed my Bible and finished reading the book of James.

I created a mission statement as well verbalized to my hubby and wrote down some goals in different categories. I’m also taking action on making rising early a reality (slowly but surely on that one!)

Karin, I feel ya. I started to do my morning reading and planning in our guestroom instead of the living room where I used to do it, because it seemed like every time I passed by my son’s room, he heard me somehow!

I worked in the family garden this week, both by myself and with the kids. By myself, I made a special note to enjoy Heavenly Father’s creations–the feel of the soil in my hands, sounds of the wind rustling through the trees, birds chirping, and even a woodpecker that has come to visit. I understood that none of this occurred by chance–it was CREATED, placed on this earth for a purpose. I was also able to teach the kids the value of work, helping/service, and enjoying the fruit of our labors as our blueberry & strawberry plants are already producing fruit!

Last week I made a goal to pray for my children. I printed out the prayer calendar this weekend. I woke up early today and read the bible and prayed for my kids. I think God is really trying to get me on this way of living….our church services for the next 5 weeks is about parenting, and praying for your children! : ) After we ate breakfast I heard my three year old at the kitchen table talking to God. What a reward to see my actions being followed by my children!

I took action by making myself go to bed earlier so that I CAN get up earlier! I always had my “quiet/alone” time at late at night when everyone had gone to bed, but that made my day so much less productive. By going to bed earlier and waking earlier, I have time to prepare myself for the day! So much better!!

I made a daily, weekly, and monthly list for every room in the house and posted it in a part of the room that I see daily! I am on a roll and so excited because I am TERRIBLE at sticking to things. I am determined to find a way that works for me, and this seems to be working so far!

I took action this past week by starting to rise early and read my Bible and journal and I plan to continue that this week. I also took action today by taking/getting a break from kids to go to a cafe and have a cup of tea and read and journal.

Today I actually got up earlier than my kids–prayed, exercised and showered and got the kitchen in shape before 9 a.m.!! It has been sooooo long since I got so much rolling that early. Then I was able to study scriptures and have some quiet time later in the day since I didn’t have to play “catch-up” and that was really, really nice. Thanks for all the inspiration and encouragement. Gradually I hope to work up to getting all of that accomplished at the beginning of the day . . . .

I took action this week by purchasing a workout video and hand weights and plan to begin tomorrow morning working off my postpartum weight!
