I was thinking how cool it would be to create a whole mission statement solely scripture based. Compile a handful of verses that all have the same common outcome and line them up in a way that they flow. Possibly replacing "I, me and my" with God saying "you". That'll will be my project this week.

Was so glad to find this! Been feeling a lack of purpose at home of late. Here's my current mission statement:

To pray more. Particularly for my husband and children, and with my husband and children.
To actively and visibly love my husband - words, gestures, acts, touch.
To respond to my children with love and patience at all times and to radiate joy for them to see.
To set in place routines and schedules (and follow them!) so my home is orderly, and therefore peaceful and inviting.
To keep fit and healthy through exercise and healthy eating so I reap the feel-good benefits and so I can face all that is before me with strength and health.

It's a start. Now to put it up around the house!

Had a hard time narrowing this down and am still not satisfied with it, but I'm desperate for something to help me remove the physical, mental, relational, and spiritual clutter from my life.

Decided my overall goal is "whole-hearted love, obedience, and service that causes God and people to feel respected and cherished."
1. To whole-heartedly love, obey, and serve God in a way that leads to my full surrender to Him with every thought and action captive to Christ
2. To whole-heartedly love, obey, and serve my husband in a way that frees him for his calling in life and causes others, including our children and extended family, to respect him
3. To whole-heartedly love, lead, and serve my children in a way that moves them to love and obey us and God whole-heartedly, and that leads them to loving, responsible relationships with us, God, and others when they are adults
4. To whole-heartedly love, lead, and serve my university students in a way that moves them to serve God with excellence and love Him more (I'm at a Christian university)

Then I had three "lesser" action statements for things that are important to me but that need to take a backseat to the first four that I "must" do:
i. To love my extended family unselfishly
ii. To help the helpless unselfishly
iii. To craft and create unselfishly

That last one is (selfishly) for me. :-) Creating "fills my tank", but surely I can learn to do it in unselfish ways.

But I did all this without a guiding passage of Scripture, so I'm feeling a little unsure about it. Maybe the II Peter passage posted in another comment? I'll have to think about it, because I definitely want a "guiding" passage to appear at the top of my mission statement.

I'll post this on the front of my daily notebook, a three-ring binder with a clear front for display.

Love your blog!

Here's my updated mission statement...
MY MISSION STATEMENT
Spend my life searching, knowing, and loving God
Honor the Lord with my manner of speech, dressing, and with my actions
Echo God’s love and wisdom by living God’s word daily
Respect Mike’s feelings and points of view by listening to him with an open heart
Express my unconditional love and devotion to my loved ones, especially my children, daily
Laugh hard and always see good things in others and in all situations
Live mindfully and serve others well
End the day with a grateful and cheerful heart.

Hello, Kat :)

I am new to your blog, but am in LOVE. I feel like I'm reading the thoughts of my Better Self. :)

I have always been one of lofty (and numerous) goals for self improvement. Lately I've been seeking more focus and discernment, and this challenge was/is really helpful and inspiring.

I have spent some time tonight developing my Life Statement, and I thought I'd share it. (I 'stole' the idea from another follower about writing it in the first person - love that!). It's kind of long, but it feels right for now.

.......
(with God's help) I am...
• a student of Christ who pursues him with all of my heart; who knows and daily hears his Voice; who longs for the things he longs for; and whose actions puposefully play a part in reconciling heaven & earth. (Ps. 37:4, John 10:1-18)

• a true life partner to Dan—encouraging him lead our family with wisdom, and to follow God's call on his life; growing with him in genuine intimacy (body and soul); cultivating a heart of service and submission; always remembering what a gift he is in my life. (Rom. 12:9-13 MSG)

• a life coach to my children—choosing to see them through their Father's grace-filled eyes; praying without ceasing that they will grow to know God intimately, to love him deeply, to discover his purpose for their life at an early age, and to live it out with passion and courage. I treasure (find JOY) in every moment—from the minute to the magnificent. (Ex. 34:6, Eph. 1:17-29a and whole chapter)

• whole—body/mind/soul. (body) I am a good steward of the body God has given me—developing healthy, active habits that I can pass down to my children. (mind) I release myself from the pursuit of the SuperWoman title. I make time for retreat and personal development that energizes and restores. (soul) I consistently carve out quiet, devotional time and engage in authentic, Biblical community. (John 10:10)

(final note): I will not settle for less than his Best for me.

To live freely and find myself without succumbing to fear, and inspire others to do the same and stand up for their dreams. To make conscious decisions to be good rather than bad. To find meaning and beauty.
To raise well aware, smart, loving children who I will always share a close bond with. And to not overwhelm or burden them with the image of perfection.
To nurture my husbands spirit, to cherish our relationship and the love that we create between us.

Maybe not a mission statement in the true sense, but one that I am happy with, and is how I see myself and my world.

Respect
Honesty
Trust
Love

Respect is how I define my world. If you don’t have respect for yourself you will not make positive choices about your self and your behaviour. If you do not have respect for others, you will not treat them well. If you do not have respect for the environment and the community, you will not be socially active and contribute. If you do not have respect for your job/employment, you will not put effort in.

To have a home where each person feels respected and cherished.
To take every single thought captive and obedient to Christ.
To be patient, gentle, and full of grace.
To seek growth through discussion, reading, and cultivation of gifts and talents.
